Jesup was founded in 1870. That's the one thing most scholars have agreed upon. But who actually founded the town that trains built? It has been narrowed down to three possibilities. Let's explore.
A. Morris K. Jesup. A banker who bought the Savannah, Florida, and Western out of bankruptcy following the Civil War. Morris Jesup was also a member of the Jekyll Island Club (aka The Millionaires Club) on Jekyll Island along with J. P. Morgan and William Rockefeller among others.
B. General Thomas Sidney Jesup, hero of the Indian Wars. In October 1837, Jesup set up a false truce and captured Osceola and dozens of his followers.
C. James R Jesup. He was affiliated with the East Tennessee, Virginia, and Georgia Railroad.
Regardless of who initially founded Jesup, the fact still remains that it's a beautiful place to live, work, and play.
